Modern Wedding Magazine
Early this year I was contacted by Modern Wedding Magazine. They came across one of my bouquets online and wondered if I had a high resolution they might use so they could possibly include it in the magazine. Cool, right! So I sent the image off, this was probably 6 or so months ago. I saw that the issue came out and I've been trying to get my hands on it to see if I made it in. I did! Not only that but they also featured some of my fellow Chapel Designers, including the Flower Mama herself Holly Chapple. I'm the last image in the feature…#7.

The Barn at Perona Farms
The request from this bride was her bouquet was to be large…very large. And boy was it…it was so large and I completely loved it! I had several last minute bookings this spring/summer, this bride and her family tackled the centerpieces but came to me for the corsages, boutonnieres, and bouquets. I met the bride one week before her wedding in the flower district so she could see the types of flowers we would be able to use in her bouquet. It's a beautiful thing to have the complete trust of a bride, and I love having the freedom to design!
I got a little artsy with the pictures..this old plow is right in front of the barn and made a perfect backdrop for pictures…

The Bridal Bouquet: crazy awesome ranunculus that opened up to reveal a pretty yellow center, helios garden roses, pink peonies, peach parrot tulips, garden snow spray roses, peach parrot tulips, oregano, and various greens that I thought looked pretty :)

Just to get perspective on how large the bouquet was…this big burly hairy armed man, who was with the band and all sweaty from their pre-wedding practice session walked by and I asked him to hold the bouquet….it's wider than him!

A May Wedding at The Grand Summit Hotel
I can't believe it's August and I'm just finding a little time to squeeze in a post about a wedding from May...and May, June, July…all beautiful months with lots of beautiful weddings to share. So slowly I will be catching up. I think I might need to hire an intern! Business has grown by leaps and bounds the past 6 months, and the next 6 months of this year are just as busy. I'm so excited to be doing what I love and contributing to the family trough. I love flowers, and I love that I can do what I love and help support my family.
I loved working with Corey and her mom Nina. Corey was planning everything from afar, so I spent lots of time chatting with her mom. Now you might be thinking, ugh mother of the bride. She was probably driving you crazy…but not in the least. She was so genuinely excited for her daughter that it was so wonderful working with her. She helped me remember that a wedding is not just about the bride and groom, but how it brings their families together. We just chatted, and it was nice. I knew about her moms hair debacle when the hair dresser who had helped her grow her hair out for a year suddenly forgot the end goal and cut it all off, about the dress shopping, about how everything else with the wedding was coming along. My mom passed away about 9 years ago, and I miss just chatting with her. And while I was helping Nina decide if they needed to find more vintage china (all the centerpieces were in groupings of vintage china on the tables), Nina was helping fill a little void in my life.
When Corey and Nina first came to me with the idea of the vintage china I was a little worried. Honestly I've had some bride supply items that were not pretty and I had made it my new policy not to use items that I had not purchased myself. But when they showed me the pictures of what they had already collected I was hooked. So for about 6 months here and there they picked things up. Then they delivered them to my door, where I created groupings of pieces to design in. The lighting in the venue is terrible, so my pictures aren't so great, thankfully Dove Photography captured some beautiful images.
Corey at first was a blush and white bride, then she became a coral, orange, blush bride…and I'm so happy she decided to go the brighter route. We used peonies, spray roses, jasmine vine, helios garden roses, Juliet garden roses, peach parrot tulips, and dusty miller in the designs. The centerpieces also included hypericum berries and astrantia. Enjoy the photos!

Bohemian Beach Wedding Seashell Resort and Beach Club LBI
The past two months have been a wonderfully busy blur. I'm so happy to finally have a little bit of time to share everything and to even remember where I've been!
The bride contacted me only two weeks before the date of her wedding realizing that the assortment of bohemian vessels she had collected for the wedding were going to be too much for her to handle. (It ended up being 48 in total) Since she has some floral design experience it was important to her to make the bouquets and boutonnieres herself and because of her experience she realized that there was no way she was going to be able to do everything.
I think many DIY brides get in over their heads not realizing that DIYing takes a lot of time. When you have someone experienced do the work for you it one, will take them less time because of their experience, and two will turn out better... because of their experience. They get to focus on one aspect of the wedding and are not also juggling all the out of town relatives, all the other vendors, all the little details. The florist gets to focus on just the flowers.
Someone who is thinking of going the DIY route, without any prior experience with the task might think, I'll save so much money. Maybe think about it this way, what is your time worth to you. The hours you will spend doing the flowers takes away from the time you could be enjoying with your mother, your bridesmaids, your family. I think it's worth having someone else deal with the stress…and I'm not just saying that because I'll work more…I'm saying this because I was that naive DIY bride. Looking back I wish I had hired someone, yes it all turned out fine…looking back though my bouquets were pretty ugly…oh how far I've come! (It was 9 years ago and the first wedding I had ever done), but I think I missed out on enjoying the day because I was just, plain and simple, stressed about getting everything done. And ok..it did get me started on the path I'm on now….but I don't think most DIY brides are going to end up being floral designers ;)
So with my DIY rant over, here are my beachy bohemian creations. The ranunculus…the white flower with the yellow center were the best I've every worked with and were from a local NJ grower, Hautau and Sons. All season long I snatched up their flowers when I was in the market, and all season long they were amazing.
The designs contained fern, astilble, tulips, ranunculus, amaryllis, scabiosa pods and a crazy fluffy large grass from NewZealand.
I can't take credit for any of the ceremony decor, the brides sister set all this up…the circle of babies breath garland was such a simple sweet alter for the bride and groom.
